Smartphone overuse causes premature wrinkles

Smartphone overuse causes premature wrinkles

The tiny devices may be great to connect to friends, access internet, videos, games etc., but they do not come without health hazards.

Many women who constantly squint at their smartphones for long time are developing premature wrinkles, confirmed doctors recently.

“I’ve noticed a huge difference over the past 18 months in my clients’ faces – it’s the constant peering intently down at that mini screen. It’s the same with an iPhone.”–London beauty therapist Nichola Joss

Why smartphone use leads to wrinkles?
According to Jean-Louis Sebagh, a London based anti-aging expert, constantly staring at the small smartphone screens with difficulty or concentration causes the face to scrunch and leads to facial strains around and between the brows.

This is also the reason why young women who use their smartphones all the time are increasingly going for ‘BlackBerry Botox,’ a small treatment for these wrinkles on the face.

“The natural tendency is to squint at the screen when reading messages and as a result some people develop this area of tightness/small frown lines between the brows, which is easily rectified with the light use of Botox by an experienced doctor,” explained Sebagh.

Phenomenon seen on regular BlackBerry, iPhone users
Even London beauty therapist Nichola Joss voiced the same concerns, saying that even her customers have developed premature wrinkles.

“I’ve noticed a huge difference over the past 18 months in my clients’ faces – it’s the constant peering intently down at that mini screen. It’s the same with an iPhone,” Joss stated.

Sebagh added, “This phenomenon is not unusual with women living in London and the South-East. It can be seen on anyone who has and regularly checks a BlackBerry or iPhone.”

Others conditions linked to technology overuse
Apart from premature wrinkles, there have also been other conditions that have been attributed to overuse of technology.

One of these is computer vision syndrome, a temporary condition in which eyes dry as a result of focusing the eyes on a computer display for uninterrupted periods of time. It also leads to headache, neck pain, fatigue, and double vision among others.

Another condition is BlackBerry thumb, a repetitive strain injury that results from frequent use of the thumbs to press buttons on smartphones, and other mobile devices.
