A Closer Look at the Sony Ericsson Spiro
After the recent update in their high end phone range with models such as the Xperia X10 and the Vivaz, Sony Ericsson have now turned their attention to remodelling their ever popular “Walkman” range of handsets.
The Sony Ericsson Spiro is the first of such models, and at first glance the phone certainly looks impressive. The Spiro is a slider style handset, helping keep the compact measurements to a minimum. Weighing just 90 grammes, the phone measures 92 x 48 x 17mm. This small size is one of the first things that attracts you to the Spiro, making it immediately stand out amongst the host of larger smartphones currently flooding the marketplace. The curved edges on the handset add to its compactness and make the phone look almost pebble like, and meaning it will sit comfortably in the palm of your hand. The Spiro features a 2.2″ screen. This TFT affair displays upto 256,000 colours and is capable of showing a resolution of 240 x 320. The buttons look familiar beneath the screen, being layed out in much the same way as some of the handsets predecessors. The buttons are spread out around the central navigational key, the other buttons allowing you to start and end calls and also the customary audio player buttons, meaning no need to access various menus in order to hear your music.
The Sony Ericsson Spiro comes complete with just 5MB of internal, but luckily this is backed up by the potential to add a further 16GB thanks to a microSD card slot. Although this memory is not really needed for general phone usage, when it comes to multi media use then it becomes a godsend. The 2.0 mega pixel camera makes capturing special moments easy, and the digital zoom helps capture even more detail. The camera can also record video at a rate of 15 frames per second at a resolution of 320 x 240. A “Walkman” phone must have great audio playback facilities, and the Spiro certainly does not disappoint in this department. A host of formats are supported including MP3, eAAC+ and WAV. With regards to playing back your material the version 4.0 Walkman interface makes this a breeze, making navigation easy and offering the user a range of options. An RDS FM radio tuner is fitted in the unit, a nice alternative to listening to your own tracks, and the inclusion of a 3.5mm headphone jack means that a whole host of different headphones can be used with the phone.

Google Nexus One Versus Apple 3GS – Which Do I Choose
Boy these are both great phones, and this is the new technology here in the present period, both game changers in the smart phone space – no doubt about that. But which is better, or is it more of just a taste of preference?
Well, on first glance you will note that the Google Nexus One offers a larger screen (3.7 inches), whereas the Apple has a 3.5 inch, so not too much difference there, but it is noticeable. And the Motorola Droid also has a 3.7 inch screen and it is very crisp. I’d say Apple 3Gs falls in that regard, but of course, that’s only one aspect, let’s discuss the rest shall we?
The resolution of the screen is the big key, that’s what makes the Google Nexus One my favorite, it’s far superior to the Apple 3GS, no comparison, hands down, beats it in that regard. Of course, Motorola’s Droid falls in between the these two on resolution and crisp’ness. And the NexusOne is much faster on the surfing speed, impressively faster actually. And when using the mapping software portion, well, the NexusOne rocks.
